Annual Prizes

The Council of Wisdom will give Annual Prizes to the most worthy organizations, individuals, and projects that received appropriations, endorsements, or commendations by the Council during the previous year. Each of our 15 issue-related Committees will nominate two candidates for an Annual Prize, and then the membership of the Council will vote between the candidates for each prize.
The prizes will be given in the following areas, corresponding to each Committee:
     • Poverty & Disaster Relief
     • Economics, Commerce & Labor
     • Education
     • Health
     • Environment
     • Human Rights
     • Peace & Conflict Resolution
     • History, Anthropology & Sociology
     • Philosophy, Spirituality & Religion
     • Science & Technology
     • Journalism
     • Literature
     • Music
     • Visual Arts
     • Performing Arts
The winners of these prizes will receive cash awards.
Our Membership Committee will nominate two Councilors who have made significant contributions to the work of the Council during the previous year — but who are not Directors or Committee Chairs — for an Annual Prize called the Councilor of the Year Award. Then the membership of the Council will vote between these candidates.
The Councilor of the Year will be given the opportunity to write a major article for the Council of Wisdom website and for an annual print publication called the Yearbook, and will be allowed to participate in exclusive forums of our Board of Directors and Council of Advisors and be a non-voting observer at Board meetings during the upcoming year.
The Councilor of the Year Award will be given for the first time in 2010. We will begin awarding the other Annual Prizes when the Council of Wisdom has enough funds to do so in a meaningful way, perhaps starting in 2010 or 2011.
