Member Benefits

Benefits of membership in the Council of Wisdom include:

These benefits are enjoyed by all members of the Council of Wisdom.

Councilors (members who make a minimum annual donation) also have additional benefits, such as the right to propose and vote on bills, serve in active leadership positions, and vote for the Board of Directors of our organization. Non-dues-paying members may upgrade their membership to Councilor status at any time.

Affirmation of Principles

All members of the Council of Wisdom must affirm the following principles of our organization:

We, the Council of Wisdom, affirm
• the spiritual essence of being and the magnificence of creation;
• the discoveries of science and the ongoing revelation of truth and wisdom through numerous individuals, institutions, works of art and literature, and systems of belief and religious practice;
• the inherent worth and dignity of every person regardless of race, creed, gender, economic condition or other distinctions;
• and our shared responsibility as members of the interdependent web of existence.

We
• renounce hatred and violence;
• support unprejudiced, empathetic dialogue leading to intelligent, humane, environmentally sound solutions to conflicts and problems in our world;
• and together reach toward a vision of global communion in peace and prosperity for all.

Membership Agreement

Please carefully read the following, as this is an agreement between you and the Council of Wisdom if you become a member:

My intention to join the Council of Wisdom is not based on a desire to proselytize for any religion.

I will conduct myself in a civil and respectful manner in Council of Wisdom forums, understanding that inappropriate, offensive, rancorous or belligerent conduct which is disruptive to cordial and topical discussion and debate is prohibited.

I understand that if I advocate illegal activities in Council of Wisdom forums, the Council of Wisdom may be asked or required to provide my personal information to government agencies and/or law enforcement officials.

Before casting a vote on any bill in the Council of Wisdom, I promise to read the full text of that bill.

Before casting a vote on any matter in the Council of Wisdom, I promise to enter a prayerful, meditative, or conscientious and attentive state of mind and speak aloud these words: Aware of the responsibility invested in me as a member of the Council of Wisdom, I seek the highest Wisdom to guide my decision and the decision of the Council. I will then vote according to the promptings of my innermost conscience. (Members are free to interpret the recitation as an appeal for divine or heavenly wisdom or as an inner search for wisdom of the human heart and mind, or both, according to their own individual beliefs. Its purpose is to focus oneself on the importance of deciding one's vote in a profound spirit rather than based on personal biases or other superficial considerations unworthy of the Council.)

I agree to update or confirm my contact information at least once every year.

I understand that membership in the Council of Wisdom is a privilege, not an entitlement, and that if membership is granted to me by this institution I must uphold its principles and fulfill its requirements. I understand that I may be removed from membership at any time if I fail to do so.
